A SUSPICIOUS device left outside a home in Co. Antrim has been confirmed to have been an ‘elaborate hoax’.
The suspected explosive was found at the front door of a house in Lisburn at around 6.50pm last night.
The discovery prompted a security alert in the Hillview Avenue area, where residents were evacuated so that a controlled explosion could be carried out.
“A number of residents were advised to evacuate, with local facilities opened to accommodate them,” the PSNI’s Inspector Roberts said.
“Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended the scene and examined the item, carrying out a controlled explosion before deeming it to be an elaborate hoax,” he added.
“Cordons have been lifted and those who were evacuated are now able to return.”
The police force has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
“We appreciate the inconvenience caused to residents when they were out of their homes, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation as this public safety operation was conducted,” Insp Roberts said.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information which might assist us to contact 101, quoting reference number 1483 06/05/26,” he added.
