Two arrested over incident that saw men dressed in KKK outfits outside Co. Down Islamic centre

TWO men have been arrested after a group dressed up in KKK outfits and were pictured outside an Islamic prayer house in Co. Down.

Images shared on social media showed around 10 people wearing white gowns and hoods in Newtownards on October 27.

The images were later reported to police who said at the time they were treating it as a ‘hate incident’.

Two men, aged 36 and 33, were arrested this morning in relation to the incident following planned searches in Newtownards.

Items were seized during the searches and removed for further examination.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of displaying written material to stir up hatred or arouse fear.

The younger man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C controlled drug.

Both men have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
