Two-week-old baby hospitalised in Northern Ireland after alleged rape

A BABY just two weeks old is recovering in hospital in Northern Ireland following an alleged rape.

BBC News Northern Ireland reports that the baby, believed to be from the Annalong area of Co. Down. is being treated at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Police said detectives from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch are investigating an incident in which an infant sustained a number of serious injuries on Saturday, September 29.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with rape and grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody at Maghaberry Prison after appearing at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 2.

He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 10.
