Woman dies after being hit by van which mounted footpath in Dublin

A FEMALE JOGGER has died after being struck by a van in Dublin on Wednesday evening.

The incident happened around 7pm on the James Larkin Road in Raheny.

The woman was hit when a van mounted the footpath she was running on and travelled a short distance before colliding with her.

Paramedics were called and arrived shortly after, but the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body was then removed to Connolly Hospital where a post mortem exam is due to take place.

It's understood that no one else was hurt in the crash, including the driver of the van.

The scene of the accident has been cordoned off by police and remains closed today while forensic examinations are carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and road users with camera footage, who were travelling on the road between 6.45pm and 7.30pm, to contact Raheny Garda Station.
