Elderly woman ‘dragged along ground by car’ in disturbing Dublin mugging

AN ELDERLY woman is recovering in hospital following a disturbing attempted mugging in Dublin that saw her dragged along the street by a car.

According to Dublin Live, the pensioner who is in her 70s, was approached by two men in a car asking for directions.

As she approached the car, one of the men made a grab for her handbag.

However, the bag was around the woman’s neck, meaning she was dragged along for several minutes alongside the car as the thieves tried to make their escape.

The attempted theft left the woman badly shaken and with injuries to her arm and both legs.

The unsettling incident took place on Baskin Lane in Cloghran near Kinsealy on Monday, September 16.

A gardai investigation is already underway.

"Gardai in Malahide are investigating a robbery that occurred on Baskin Lane, Cloghran, Dublin yesterday 16 of September,” a garda spokesperson said.

"A female in her 70s was taken to hospital with injuries to her arm and legs as a result. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

Elderly Dublin residents are being urged to exercise caution when dealing with strangers.

"This isn’t an appeal for info, it’s a word of warning,” a local residents’ association told

"We tell our children never to get close to a strange car, yet we probably don’t think twice about doing it ourselves.

"Be vigilant. Hope the awful people who did this are caught."
