A 16-YEAR-OLD author and naturalist has shared an incredible message from a parent whose son was inspired by his book.
Dara McAnulty, from Mourne in County Down, is autistic and is deeply passionate about nature and the natural world.
His first-ever book, published at just 16 years of age, was released earlier this year, and 'Diary of a Young Naturalist' is already inspiring other young naturalists.
Dara's writes in poetic prose, describing his life and love for nature, as well as the daily challenges and joys of being autistic.
Dara took to Twitter yesterday to share a message he had received from a parent whose son, who is also autistic, was inspired by 'Diary of a Young Naturalist' in more ways than one.
The 16-year-old is passionate about nature, and released his first book earlier this year (Image: Curtis Brown UK)"We read your book with our 10 year old autistic son who has been deeply passionate about nature since toddlerhood," the parent wrote.
"It was probably the first time in his life that he could relate to someone else on such a profound level, as if he [met] a slightly older version of himself."
"He kept saying 'He is just like me!' or 'I sometimes feel like that!' or 'I understand him!'
"Upon finishing the book he exclaimed 'I am so happy and proud to be autistic'. I want to share this with everyone.'"
The proud parent, sharing their son's message to Dara, added "Thank you for being so raw and honest, means [the] world to us."
Dara shared the post to Twitter with a heartfelt message of his own, writing:
"Sometimes ... I wish I hadn't chronicled my life with such rawness. I do at times feel, that I wish it wasn’t out there, in the world.
"Then I get messages like this, take a deep breath and carry on."
