Ireland players donate to campaign helping Derry City legend fight cancer

Several Ireland internationals have lent their support to a campaign raising funds for Derry City legend Mark Farren to receive vital cancer treatment.

Seamus Coleman, James McClean and David Forde joined Irish sports fans by donating £5,000, £1,000, £1,000 respectively, towards Farren’s €30,000 total cost of his medical care in Germany.

Farren, 33, has been battling the life threatening illness for six years, and it is hoped that this elite treatment will offer him a greater chance of survival.

He told the Derry Journal that he was grateful for all the support.

““I am very, very emotional and happy at the same time,” said Mark. I can’t believe it - it’s given me the motivation to keep on fighting.”

Over £31,000 has been raised to date.
