Ireland WNT: Players will continue to wear white shorts ahead of World Cup

According to the FAI (Football Association of Ireland), the Republic of Ireland Women's team will not move away from wearing the traditional white shorts after talks were held with senior members of Vera Pauw's squad.

Over the last few weeks and months, several sporting bodies and organisations in sport around the world have given players of respective women's teams the chance to switch to from white shorts to a darker colour to alleviate concerns over periods.

The likes of the Ireland women's rugby team, the New Zealand women's team, the England women's football team, Manchester City's women's team, and others have all opted to make the change recently.

However, Ireland's WNT has decided to keep on wearing white shorts following discussions with the FAI.

Ireland plays the USA in Austin this Saturday night and will wear the green jersey, white shorts, and green socks this weekend.

The Football Association of Ireland can confirm that, following discussions with the Ireland Women's National Team players, the team will wear the traditional green jersey, white shorts, and green socks as part of the new Castore home kit," said an FAI spokesperson.

"The FAI consulted with the senior leadership group within the squad and with management on the possibility of switching the colour of the shorts, but with the supply of protective underwear, the players felt that staying with white shorts was the preferred option."

Ireland's first game against the USA will take place in Austin, Texas (7.30pm Irish time] and then on Tuesday, Vera Pauw's side will head to City Park in St Louis, Missouri. That game kicks-off 12.30am Irish time
