IT’S EXACTLY 40 years since the late Alex Higgins cemented his reputation as the most unhinged Irish sports star ever when he infamously headbutted an official in 1986.
On the night in question, the Northern Irish legend took umbrage when he was asked to provide a urine sample.
Clearly drunk, Hurricane Higgins complained that he was always being picked on for drug tests and threatened the doctor, who was left shaken by the incident. “I already took a test earlier in this bloody tournament,” he screamed.
An official tried to patiently explain that these random drug tests were pre-determined before the start of the 1986 UK Championship.
But Higgins wouldn’t listen and then, well, things got worse...
