Irish teenager praised for man-of-the-match display in Championship debut

NORWICH HAVE had a fairly strong Irish connection over the past number of years.

We reckon they will always be happy to have an Irishman in their squad, purely because of what Wes Holohan did for the club for so many years.

Now we've got the talented forward Adam Idah coming through their ranks, who has started in the Premier League for The Canaries and picked up a couple of goals in the Championship this season.

And while we're all justifiably excited about Idah's ability, it may be time for another Norwich sensation to start getting some of our attention.

Centre-back Andrew Omobamidele has been with Norwich since he was 16, but made his full Championship debut on Saturday against Preston.

The game finished 1-1, but the young Irishman got man-of-the-match, and spoke very well after the game.

"The last bit killed us a little bit,” Omobamidele told his club’s official website. "To get a draw like that when we were winning the game and they didn’t have a lot of chances, that’s football.

"If you switch off and don’t see it out until the referee blows the whistle you’ll get punished. We’ll learn from that.

"I’m a centre-back and my job is to stop goals. It’s a big lesson learned for me. You can get the mentality when you’re winning 1-0 that the referee is going to blow the whistle but you need to see it out."

Norwich are currently top of the Championship, so it may not be too unlikely to see Omobamidele in the Premier League next season.

They take on Huddersfield tonight at 7.45pm, and we'll be keeping an eye out to see if the Leixlip lad gets another start.
