Keith Andrews has admitted that the Ireland's men's team are 'jealous' of the Irish women's side reaching the World Cup

FORMER IRELAND MIDFIELDER Keith Andrews has admitted that the Ireland's men's team are 'jealous' of the Irish women's side reaching the World Cup.

Andrew's is one of Stephen Kenny's assistant managers and was part of the Ireland setup that failed to get to this year's World Cup in Qatar.

The women's team led by Vera Pauw managed to achieve the feat by beating Scotland 1-0 last year.

A goal by Amber Barrett meant that Ireland reached their first ever major tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

The Girls in Green will play the likes of co-hosts Australia, Canada, and Nigeria next July.

Andrew's who managed to reach a Euro's in 2016 as a player admitted last weekend the bar has been set by the Ireland's women's team.

Speaking at the SSE Airtricity SWI awards on Saturday night, the former Ireland midfielder said:"The bar has been set very high by the women."

"We’re jealous. We want that."

"It’ll require a pretty impeccable approach to qualify. France lost a ‘keeper (Hugo Lloris to international retirement) but they’ll be all right."

Ireland have been drawn in a tough group with World Cup finalist's France, the Netherlands, Greece, and Gibraltar.

Ireland's first game will be against France on the 27th of March.
