Ken Doherty 'gutted' after second round exit at the Crucible

KEN Doherty has admitted that he was “gutted” after his second round defeat at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield on Saturday.

The 44-year-old Irishman congratulated fellow veteran Alan McManus, who will now face Mark Selby in the quarter-finals, after beating Doherty 13-8 at the Crucible.

“I didn’t perform yesterday, but tried hard,” Doherty said as he thanked fans for their support.

The Scot began the evening session with a 10-5 advantage over Doherty, who made brief attempts at a come-back by winning three of the first four frames.

McManus took the first two frames after the mid-session break, but a highest break of 33 showcased his quality.

He is back up to 35 in the world rankings after playing in the second round for only the first time since 2005.
