'My goodness, what's the game coming to?' Roy Keane wants footballers to ditch the self-praise and just get on with the job

ROY KEANE always speaks his mind in his role as a football pundit on ITV and last night was no different.

Baffled by Leicester City’s joyous celebrations after beating FC Copenhagen in the Champions League to maintain their 100 per cent start in the competition, Keane didn’t hold back in bringing them back down to earth.

“All this hugging players after the match, it’s over the top stuff. My goodness, what’s the game coming to? It’s ridiculous,” the Irishman said.

Keane had already been irritated by widespread praise of Leicester’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel for making what he deemed a ‘standard save’ late in the game, which the Foxes won 1-0.

“I don’t think it’s as great at everyone’s making out. Obviously, he’s done well for Leicester, but to me this is a standard save, that’s what he’s there for," he added.

“That’s what he’s supposed to be doing. They’re all praising him after the game but a goalkeeper – that’s his job.”
