Sam Bennett wins second Paris-Nice stage in sprint victory

SAM BENNETT is quite unstoppable at the minute.

The Tipperary man (yes, Tipp and not Waterford!) had too much in the tank for his rivals in the final 200 metres of stage five, and will hold onto his green jersey as a result .

It has been quite a successful start to the season for Bennett, with the win his fourth of the season after claiming two stages in last month's UAE Tour.

But it wasn't made easy for him, and he wasn't particularly happy with how the race went.

The 30-year-old voiced his frustrations with the tactics employed by some of the other riders towards the business end of the race.

"The guys were incredible today," he said. "I was suffering in the last few kilometres. I don't know what it is, but people won’t let me follow my own train here. It’s frustrating.

"I’m not allowed follow my own wheel and guys are coming in and it seems they just want to disrupt our sprints instead of concentrating on their own race. We don’t look at anyone else, I don’t know why they are so fixated with us.

"I didn’t think I’d hold it until the line. I’m just proud I could finish it off."

When discussing the top Irish athletes of the past few years, Bennett simply has to be in the conversation.
