Wafer nominated for Six Nations player award

Ireland's Aoife Wafer has been included in the shortlist for Player of the Championship in the 2024 Guinness Women's Six Nations.

The Irish women's team finished third this year, and Wafer was Ireland's standout player in the backrow.

The Wexford native was a force to be reckoned with during this year's event. According to stats, Wafer carried for 417 metres (gaining 264.8), scored two tries, and ranked fourth for linebreaks (six) in the women's Six Nations in 2024.

Wafer (21) has been included alongside four other names for the gong. The Irish star is joined by the likes of French flanker Romane Menager, England's full-back Ellie Kildunne, and Italy's wing Alyssa D'Inca.

England's Kildunne is the favourite to claim the award.

Voting closes at 22:00 BST on Tuesday, May 7th. The four nominees have been selected on the basis of the number of fan votes each received for the Team of the Championship, from which a maximum of one nominee from any nation was able to be selected.
