UCD ranks fifth in Europe for producing successful entrepeneurs

UNIVERSITY College Dublin is among the top in Europe for producing successful entrepreneurs. 

The educational institution has been ranked fifth on a list of European universities that have produced Ventre Capitalist-backed undergraduates over the last five years.

According to a new report just published by PitchBook, from January 2009 to August 2014 a total of 31 UCD graduate entrepreneurs established 26 companies, which raised $112million in funding.

UCD was the only Irish university in the top 10 European list, which was topped by the University of London.

It ranked the best overall in Europe with 71 graduate entrepreneurs, establishing 67 companies that raised just over $1billion in funding.

Globally, Stanford ranked number 1 according to the report - entitled ‘Top Universities for VC-backed Entrepreneurs’

The US-based university produced 378 entrepreneurs who established 309 companies raising just over $3.5billion.

PitchBook is headquartered in Seattle, Washington and has offices in New York and London.

Its VC database includes the educational backgrounds of over 13,000 founders worldwide.
