Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke jokes about coffee cup scene

EMILIA Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s hit TV series Game of Thrones has made light of the now infamous coffee cup scene from the latest episode.

Eagle-eyed fans of the show were quick to spot what looked like a takeaway coffee cup, which had been inadvertently left on screen on a table in front of Clarke’s character, and news of the blunder was quick to do the rounds on social media.

The cup in question appeared only briefly as Daenerys, Jon Snow and the rest celebrated defeating the Night King and his army of white-walkers by treating themselves to an elaborate feast within the walls of Winterfell.

Now the actress has herself taken to social media to laugh about the mistake as she posted a photo of herself alongside fellow cast members Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister and Jason Momoa, who portrayed Khal Drogo, holding a coffee cup.

She joked on Instagram: “Did I stumble upon the truth here?! The cup bearer does not drinketh the Starbucks tea… oh and this ain’t a spoiler just a lost wanderer coming home for a mid filming cuppa…. @prideofgypies (Momoa) you so fire you make my hair turn blue.”

Fans speculated whether it was in fact a starbucks cup they’d spotted and if its inclusion was intentional or not, and to their credit, Game of Thrones’ official Twitter account appeared to confirm that it was indeed a mistake that had slipped past their production team.

They tweeted: “News from Winterfell. The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. #Daenerys ordered an herbal tea.”

With just two episodes left in the entire series, fans are clamouring to find out just who will end the show sitting atop the Iron Throne, with the penultimate episode airing on Monday.
