Jeff Bridges revives The Dude for Super Bowl commercial but some fans are disappointed

ACTOR Jeff Bridges has revived his character The Dude from The Big Lebowski for a beer commercial.

Bridges sparked hopes of a sequel to the 1998 Coen Brothers classic after tweeting a short clip of himself last week as The Dude.

However he has since revealed it to be part of a Super Bowl commercial for Stella Artois.

The ad also sees Sarah Jessica Parker revive her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw.

Bradshaw and The Dude stun patrons at a fancy restaurant by shunning their usual tipples – a Cosmopolitan and a Black Russian respectively – in favour of Stella.

“Changing can do a little good,” says Bridges’ character. “The Dude abides.”

The Change Up the Usual ad is part of Stella’s Pour It Forward campaign with Water.org asking people to switch their usual drink to Stella to help the charity.

For a limited time, each Stella sold will see the company make a donation to help provide clean water in the developing world.

“At his core, El Duderino would want to do the right thing. Especially when it’s as easy as ordering a Stella,” said Bridges.

Needless to say, despite the good cause, fans of Bridges’ bowling-loving slacker were disappointed that a sequel is not in the works.

Many though enjoyed the commercial and praised Bridges for backing the cause.

It may not be a sequel, but it’s a fun cameo for Big Lebowski fans. And remember: “The Dude abides. I don't know about you but I take comfort in that.”
