What teatime treats bring you back to your childhood?

WHAT DO Freddo Bars, Fig Rolls, Refreshers, Iced Gems and Nice biscuits all have in common?

They are the teatime treats that most remind members of The Irish Post editorial team of their childhood!

We were inspired to take a sweet trip down memory lane this week after children’s charity Dreams Come True revealed a survey showing that Wagon Wheels are the teatime snack which most reminds the people of Britain of their childhood.

Pink wafers and Jammy Dodgers come in at a close second and third, but it’s the chocolate covered double biscuit and marshmallow sandwich – an Australian creation which hit British supermarket shelves in 1948 -  that brought the majority of people back to their youth.

Dreams Come True, a charity which supports children and young people with life-limiting illnesses, conducted the survey by polling 1000 consumers across Britain about the tea-time treats which brought on nostalgic feelings of childhood.

They revealed their results - which also included Iced Gems, Battenburg, Custard Creams and Jaffa Cakes, among the top then snacks – this week, as they launched their 2015 Dream Tea Fundraising Campaign.

With so many other treats out there - and some which will be particularly popular among the Irish - we are keen to hear what tea-time treats remind the Irish in Britain of their childhood!

So please tell us your top three treats by posting your comments in the space below.

To start things off we polled some of the editorial staff here at The Irish Post:

Siobhan Breatnach, Editor (who doesn’t drink Tea and admits to having “a very sweet tooth”)

Refreshers

Dip Dab

Desperate Dan bar

Wham bar

Flogs

Lucky dip bag

(I could go on…)

James Mulhall, Reporter

Freddo bars

Chomp bars

Fudge bars

Mikado biscuits

Penguin bars

Club Milks

(Top three is tough – but at a push I’d say Freddo, Penguin and Chomp!)

Nemesha Balasundaram, Digital Production Journalist

Party Rings

BN Biscuits - remember the theme tune… ‘bn bn, duh duh duh da da… bn bn, duh duda da…’

Iced gems

Ned Keating, Sports Writer

Custard creams

Malted milks

Nice biscuits

Fiona Audley, Regional Editor

Fig Rolls

Bourbons

Kimberley biscuits

(We were not a particularly adventurous biscuiting household back then and sweets were a definite no-no at tea-time)
