VIP guests help launch Manchester Irish Festival

MANCHESTER'S Irish Festival was officially launched in an event at the Town Hall last Saturday March, 9 with Sir Peter Fahy, Cllr Elaine Boyes and the Rugby League World Cup trophy among attendees. 

Sir Peter, Greater Manchester Police constable, spoke of his pride at being invited to open this years’ festival in a speech to VIP guests and members of the Irish community.

Sir Peter was joined on stage by Tyrone McCarthy of the Ireland rugby team, Lord Mayor of Manchester Cllr Elaine Boyes and cast members of 'An Emigrants Farewell' from County Mayo, who were making their UK debut after a sell-out tour of America.

Other notable names, at the evening celebrating Irish music and culture, included Lord Mayor Elaine Boyes, Lady Mayoress Linda Geoghegan, Mickey Coen, Kevin Fitzpatrick  and Paddy Doherty.
