Body of man in his 60s recovered after car went over sea cliffs in Ireland

THE body of a man has been recovered off the Old Head of Kinsale after a car went off the cliffs last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Co. Cork at 7.30pm after the vehicle was seen entering the water.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street in Cork contacted Valentia Coastguard, who sent the Rescue 117 helicopter from Waterford to the scene.

Lifeboats from the Old Head of Kinsale coast guard were also in attendance.

An initial search of the sea was carried out but had to be called off as the car was submerged in deep water.

The search resumed at low tide in the early hours of this morning with the deployment of two lifeboats and a cliff team.

Sadly, the body of a man in his 60s was recovered by coast guard at around 3.20am.

Gardai are treating the incident as a tragic accident.
