Donald Trump named 'Loser of the Year' in Germany

DONALD TRUMP has been named 2020's Loser of the Year by German news magazine Der Spiegel.

On Monday, the US Electoral College met to certify Joe Biden's victory in last month's presidential election, and officially declare Trump the loser.

But that was just the second time in a matter of days that the president had been branded a loser, as Germany's Der Spiegel decided that he was in fact the very best (or worst - whichever fits) loser of the year.

"Donald Trump always played down the pandemic, then fell ill with Covid-19 and became a super spreader," wrote the German outlet.

"Nothing is normal under Trump," they added.

"He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising.

"Trump's presidency ends as it began. Without decency and without dignity."

Despite the damning verdict, Trump himself is still refusing to admit defeat and has failed to concede the election to Mr Biden, despite the result being certified.

Der Spiegel's announcement, rather ironically, was made on the same day that Mr Biden and Kamala Harris were named Time magazine's 'Person of Year'.

According to the Pew Research Center, opinion of Trump in Germany is very low. Around three quarters of the German population polled in January said they 'lacked confidence' in the incumbent President.
