Garda investigation launched after 'part of a human ear' discovered in Dublin city centre

GARDAÍ are investigating the reported discovery of part of a human ear on a street in Dublin city centre. 

The grim find was made by a member of the public at approximately 9.45am this morning outside a block of flats in Whitefriar Gardens, Dublin 8.

The body part has been described as "a piece of skin and flesh resembling part of an ear".

According to RTÉ News, the ear may have been severed when a man in his 40s was allegedly stabbed this morning.

He was rushed to St James's Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

It is understood the man in undergoing surgery this afternoon.

A Garda spokesman told The Irish Post: "Gardaí are investigating the discovery of what's believed to be part of an ear - found on Whitefriar St, D8 at approximately 9.45am on Wednesday 1st August 2018.

"Investigations are ongoing."

It is unclear how large the body part in question was or what condition it was found in.

The area remains sealed off by detectives this afternoon.
