Gardai warn public about fake jury duty email scam

GARDAI have warned the public not to be taken in by a fake jury duty scam being sent around via email.

It's understood that a number of people across the country have been receiving fraudulent emails over the past few days, posing as jury service notices, which ask you to click on a link 'to register your information in order to get a jury number'.

On Monday, gardai sent out a warning asking people to watch out for the same and urged people not to click on any of the links in these emails and not to release any private or personal information.

They stressed that legitimate jury summons are sent to you via An Post, not by email.

The fraudulent email reads:

"As an Irish Citizen, contributing your own quota to the justice system is very important.

"You have been selected to participate in a court proceeding as a juror. To register your information in order to get a jury number, click on the [link]."

Anyone receiving emails resembling this have been encouraged to delete them from their inbox.
