Irish character set to exit Coronation Street via male suicide storyline

AIDAN CONNOR in the long-running ITV soap is set to be phased out in a tragic suicide storyline.

The young character, involved in the running of fictional underwear company Underworld is set to take his own life on the soap.

The character, belonging to the Irish family of the Connors on the soap, has just become a father to his ex-fiancé Eva's baby and perhaps the strain of running a business and a new child with a former flame will be the factors that tip him over the edge.

According to BBC,  actor Shayne Ward who plays the role of Aidan on the soap said the storyline was relevant as ever today.

He said he hopes "that anyone who recognises something of themselves in Aidan will realise they can, and really should talk about how they're feeling".

Mr Ward said he and most people he knows have been affected by the cause of suicide: "We have all heard stories like Aidan's when it was to late, when people looked back and wished they had spotted the signs, but it isn't always possible.

He also said he hopes the storyline on the show will help anyone suffering from ill mental health in the current climate: "If we can encourage someone who is feeling low... to realise they need to talk, then we have achieved what we set out to with this story."
