Irishman shot dead in gun attack in Costa del Sol

AN IRISHMAN has been shot dead in Spain’s Costa del Sol resort, according to reports.

He has been named by Irish media as Gary Hutch from Dublin’s North Inner City.

Spain’s El Pais newspaper reports that at around 11.40am yesterday morning, Mr Hutch was shot three times by a gunman in a gated estate in Angel de Miraflores Mijas, close to Malaga.

It is understood the masked assailant chased Mr Hutch around a swimming pool before opening fire.

Reports in Dublin claim that the 34-year-old had moved to the Spanish resort in 2007 after being released from prison for armed robbery offences.

It is also believed that he was the nephew of former Irish criminal Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, who was the prime suspect in two of the biggest armed robberies in Irish history.

Mr Hutch’s death is the second shooting in the region in the past week.

A 30-year-old native of Colombia was shot dead in his wife’s car in Migas last week, in a suspected drugs-related crime.

The deputy of the Malagan government, Miguel Briones, told El Pais that local police are investigating whether the two shootings are related.

Gardaí are also liaising with Spanish authorities in the investigation into the killing.
