Man arrested and questioned over rape of elderly woman, 70s, in west of Ireland town

A MAN has been arrested and questioned over the alleged rape of an elderly woman in Ennis, Co. Clare last week.

The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred at around 11.30pm in the town last Thursday.

The victim is a woman aged in her 70s, according to RTÉ News.

A man, aged 49, was arrested in Co. Mayo the following day after Gardaí assessed CCTV footage of car movements in the Ennis area.

The man was released on Saturday and a file on the investigation is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The DPP will then decide whether the suspect will face charges.
