Man charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of family man James Feeney

A MAN has been charged in connection with the death of loving family man James Feeney earlier this year.

Anthony Reilly, 64, of Prince Street, Rochdale has been charged with manslaughter and assault.

He remains on bail and is due to appear at Rochdale and Bury Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 10.

An avid horse-racing and football fan, James Feeney had been celebrating his 65th birthday on the day he died.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police were called to Rochdale town centre on May 1 at 8.20pm after paramedics reported a man was unconscious and not breathing following an assault.

Mr Feeney, who has strong Irish links, had visited Ireland just days before his death.

Married to his wife Anne, his family issued a statement through Greater Manchester Police shortly after his passing where they described their devastation at his loss.

“Jimmy was a loving family man, his family were his life,” the Feeney family said. “His kindness and friendliness was known to everyone.

“Jimmy would steer away from trouble and enjoy life to the full. He loved horse-racing and football.

“This tragic event has left us all shocked, devastated especially as it happened during his 65th birthday celebrations.”
