Man in critical condition after stabbing at popular Irish pub in Birmingham

A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed at a popular Irish pub in Birmingham.

The 20-year-old sustained multiple injuries to his chest and stomach during the incident at the Kerryman pub in the Digbeth area of the city at around 1.30 this morning.

Superintendent Sally Holmes, from West Midlands Police, said: “Officers are viewing CCTV and conducting enquiries with people in the vicinity.

“Extra reassurance patrols will be taking place in the area and I’d like to take this opportunity to clarify that this incident is not linked the Pride celebrations which are taking place in the city this weekend.

“We’re working hard to establish the circumstances around the stabbing and the scene is currently closed while forensic examination is carried out.

“With this being a busy area we believe there will be a number of people who may have vital information to assist our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone who hasn’t spoken to officers to contact us.”

No one has been arrested at this stage and no weapon has been recovered.

The pub has not commented on the incident.
