Man seriously injured in machete attack in Waterford

A MAN has been left with serious injuries following a machete attack at his home in Waterford.

According to RTÉ News, the attack took place at around 3am this morning at a house in the St Herblain Park area of Waterford city.

It is understood that the attacker knocked on the door of the property and when it was answered by a man and a woman, the attacker barged into their home armed with a machete and began attacking those in the house.

The man sustained serious injuries in the attack, and the woman received a defensive cut to the hand.

While the victim's injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life threatening: he sustained a deep laceration to left thigh, a serious laceration to his knee and a cut to his right thigh.

The attacker then fled and the emergency services-- Gardaí and paramedics-- rushed to the scene.

There have been no arrests made in relation to the incident, RTÉ News reports, and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the attack.
