One dead following collision in Connacht

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Co. Galway.

A female pedestrian in her 70s was fatally injured when she was struck by a 4x4 before 9pm on September 14.

The collision occurred on the M18 (southbound) near junction 17 at Cloughboley, Ardrahan.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene. The injured woman was pronounced dead at short time later.

The driver of the 4x4 was uninjured.

The woman’s body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination. The local Coroner has been notified.

Garda forensic collision investigators have examined the crash site and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.
