One man dead and another in hospital after taking unknown substances in Northern Ireland

ONE man has died and another is in hospital following a suspected overdose on an unknown substance in Co Derry.

Police in Northern Ireland have issued a warning after a 34-year-old man died after taking an unknown substance in Moneymore, Co Derry last night.

A 26-year-old man who also took the substance is in a serious condition in hospital.

The PSNI has issued a warning over drug use following the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Foster said that, “While a post-mortem examination has yet to take place to determine the cause of this tragic death, a possible link to drug or substance abuse is a strong line of enquiry.”

He added: "Our investigation is at an early stage but we believe that drugs may be a factor in both incidents."

"We also believe that a number of other people may have sought medical attention last night after becoming unwell following the consumption of drugs."

Police are now urging anyone who was on the property at Northland Road in Moneymore, Co Derry on Sunday 26 May to come forward.
