Teenager arrested after man stabbed to death in Dublin

A 20-YEAR-OLD man has died after being fatally stabbed in a Dublin apartment building late on Wednesday night.

A juvenile male was arrested overnight by detectives at Mountjoy Garda Station and is currently being interrogated about the incident.

The victim was found in a critical condition at Ballybough House on Poplar Row at around 10pm after emergency services were called to the scene.

He later passed away at the nearby Mater Hospital.

Gardai have launched a murder investigation following the crime and this morning it was reported that officers believe a number of young people were in the area at the time of the stabbing.

They're appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward.

The apartment complex has since been cordoned off as investigators survey the area.

Former Lord Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke stressed that his sympathies go out to the family of the victim, adding the he knew the mother of the deceased.

"There's a dark cloud hanging over us as a result of the coronavirus, but that dark cloud has deepened over Ballybough this morning," he said.

"It's a sad day and a family has lost a son, the feeling in the area is just numb. My heart goes out to the family.

"It's hard to put what happened into words. I know the kid's mother and she is a decent, hard-working community woman.

"All I can do is offer my sincerest sympathies," he added.
