Two woman die in road traffic collision in West of Ireland

TWO women have died following a road traffic collision in Ballinalsoe, Co. Galway this evening.

The women, aged in their fifties, were on foot when they were struck by a car that had collided with a second vehicle.

The incident took place at around 5.40pm on Station Road.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were removed to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Gardai said: “The Station Road (R358) is closed from the junction with the R348 to before the train station to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

“Diversions are in place via the Killure Rd to access the Train Station from the Ballinasloe side."
