ENGLAND Saxons defeated the Irish Wolfhounds by 18-9 following an error strewn encounter in Cork.
Ireland's starting XV featured only one uncapped player, Jack Conan, but the visitors' were enthusiastic from the outset.
The Saxons shaded the first half with Henry Slade effective as they departed at the break armed with a 11-3 advantage. Slade crossed for a 21st minute try as the home side struggled initially.
Ian Madigan's place kicking was on the money and three penalties from the Leinster fly half ensured only two points separated the teams by the 57th minute.
Despite Ireland's rally Saxons replacement Christian Wade crossed for a last gasp insurance try.
