Ireland's Rob Elliot could miss Euros after suffering 'serious' injury during Slovakia draw

IRELAND’s Rob Elliot is at risk of missing the Euros after picking up a knee injury during last night’s draw against Slovakia.

The Newcastle goalkeeper’s injury has been described as ‘serious’ by Ireland manager Martin O’Neill although it remains unclear for how long Elliot could be out of action.

Following Ireland’s 2-2 draw during the friendly encounter O’Neill said: "It's a real disappointment and obviously a dampener on the evening.”

Elliot was hurt as he tried to save Miroslav Stoch's opening goal at the Aviva Stadium.

Not only could he miss the Euros but Elliot may not be present for his club’s relegation battle.

Newcastle tweeted that the full extent of Elliot's injury would be assessed on Wednesday.
