Ryanair and Jet2 planes 'collide' on runway at East Midlands Airport

A RYANAIR jet has been involved in a minor collision with a parked Jet2 plane at East Midlands Airport.

The airliners belonging to the two popular low-cost carriers "made contact" on the tarmac amid heavy fog at around 8.20am this morning, according to the airport.

No passengers were on board either of the planes at the time and no one was injured.

Travellers reported delays as a result of the mishap but flights are now running as normal.

One flier tweeted: "A Ryanair plane has bumped a Jet2 one while taxiing here at East Midlands @ema_airport been told to board but nothing is moving, frustrating! Should have taken off already".

In a statement, East Midlands Airport confirmed it was investigating the incident.

"A taxiing aircraft made contact with a stationary aircraft this morning on the central passenger apron at East Midlands Airport," a spokesman said.

"There were no passengers on either aircraft and no one has been injured. Flights are continuing as scheduled."

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "One of our training aircraft was taxiing to stand at East Midlands [30 Apr] when its wing tip made contact with a Jet2 aircraft.

"This aircraft was under the instruction of East Midlands Traffic Control at the time and the crew were following correct taxi lines as per ATC procedure.

"This B737-700 aircraft was due to be used for training in East Midlands so no customers were affected."

The airport said airline staff from Ryanair and Jet2 were inspecting the jets to assess the level of damage.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it is also investigating the collision.
