Irish immigration museum named Europe’s leading tourist attraction for third year running

A MUSEUM documenting the movement of the Irish across the world has won a top industry award for the third year running.

EPIC The Emigration Museum is the first visitor attraction to be voted Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards, three times in a row.

The event, an annual highlight on the travel industry calendar, is in its 28th year.

Dublin-based EPIC offers visitors the opportunity to discover the moving and unforgettable stories of those who left the island of Ireland, and how they influenced and shaped the world.

The museum holds 1,500 years of Irish history and culture in its atmospheric vaults.

Patrick Greene, EPIC CEO and Museum Director said of their win: “We are very proud to accept the title of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for the third year in a row.

“It is testament to the resilience, creativity and commitment of all our staff to providing a world class experience.”

He added: “Being recognised by our visitors, neighbours and stakeholders in voting for us to win this title ahead of so many iconic European landmarks really is a boost in the times we are in and for Irish tourism.

“We continue to honour the diaspora abroad and recognise the vital contributions that Irish people have made worldwide. Thank you to the thousands of people who have voted for us.”

Ireland’s Culture Minister Catherine Martin congratulated EPIC on the win.

“I wish to congratulate EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum on their third win of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards,” she said.

“Irish creativity, culture and community is showcased excellently in their Museum.

Their commitment to providing quality educational events, to hosting exhibitions uncovering lesser-known stories of the Irish Diaspora and to giving visitors a world class experience lies at the heart of their win. EPIC is an excellent cultural ambassador within and for Ireland. This is a win for EPIC, for Dublin and for Irish Tourism.”

Niall Gibbons, CEO at Tourism Ireland, added: "Congratulations to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum on being named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for the third year in a row.

"As we prepare to restart tourism from overseas, this is really good news. It is a truly well-deserved accolade."
