Top Irish designer J.W. Anderson scoops two British Fashion Awards

TOP Irish fashion designer J.W. Anderson has beaten Britain’s top designers to be named both the top men’s and women’s designer at the British Fashion Awards.

The Magherafelt, Co. Derry native scooped the top prize in both categories at the annual awards in London last night.

Mr Anderson, 31, debuted his accessories collection in 2008 and has been a firm favourite in fashion circles since.

He was up against strong competition from fashion elites Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford and E Tautz but managed to come out on top in both the menswear and womenswear categories.

Anderson is known for blending the lines between men’s and women’s fashion with his forward-thinking designs.

The son of rugby union legend Willie Anderson, the designer has been based in London since launching his career in design.

His fashion ambitions were inspired by his grandparents – his grandfather ran a textiles company while his grandmother regularly made clothes for him and his siblings when they were young.

This marked the second consecutive year that Mr Anderson won the menswear category; while it was a first win for him in the womenswear section.
