Crawley Irish Festival needs your help

ORGANISERS of the annual Crawley Irish Festival are looking for raffle prize donations to help them hit their £16,000 fundraising target.

The festival, which features music, dance, céilí and sport exhibitions, will take place on August 25 in and around the Hawth Theatre in Crawley.

The festival, which is run by The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society, raises money for the Irish community in the area including school workshops, GAA coaching and days out for the elderly.

Celtic and Irish Cultural Society Chairman John Nolan said: “We are looking for Irish based businesses that are up for supporting Irishness in the way we promote our culture.

"We are trying to raise £5,000 alone from our Grand Festival Raffle but we'll need decent prizes to pull in that amount.”

Now in its 18th year the Crawley Festival was originally held in Southgate. Last year Crawley Borough Council gave the thumbs up to the high street as a venue, which allowed the event to be staged for less cost.

“For 2013, it made sense to move to a new venue where staging was already setup,” John said. “Again, to save costs and make the event free.”
