Gardai spread some Valentine’s Day cheer by delivering gifts to cocooning elderly residents

GARDAI IS Ireland have been busy spreading some much-needed Valentine’s Day cheer by delivering presents to elderly people cocooning through lockdown.

Officers in Ennistymon, Co Clare, managed to find time in their busy scheduled to drop-off gifts with local residents who would otherwise have not be able to see anyone due to the Level 5 lockdown restrictions.

Cocooners were treated to everything from flowers and chocolates through to Valentine’s Day cards and PPE all in the hope of lifting the gloom on an otherwise cold and windy weekend.

The kind yet simple gesture went down well with local residents, who were delighted to receive visitors and appeared well in the circumstances.

Gardai said: "Ennistymon Gardai decided to bring some Valentines cheer while checking in elderly local residents who are currently not able to see family / friends.

"Gardai delivered some flowers, chocolates, PPE and a Valentines card."

Several officers shared pictures on social media of the kind gestures, which won plenty of praise from followers online.

One said: "What a beautiful thing to do for our seniors in the community. Share the love."

Another added: "Fantastic to see this community spirit from the Gardai for people on their own and the elderly."

A third summed up the overriding feeling perfectly: "Well done. Gardai. What a lovely kind gesture. Truly. Lovely. Keep up the great work."
