Man rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being 'hit by truck' in rural Irish town

A MAN has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a truck in rural Co. Offaly this morning.

The incident occurred on Main Street in the town of Ferbane at around 7am.

The stricken pedestrian has been taken to Tullamore Hospital for treatment and is believed to have been seriously injured.

The roadway where the collision happened – which is part of the N62 Birr to Athlone Road – has been closed in both directions.

The road is not expected to reopen for a number of hours.

A Garda forensic team has been deployed to carry out an examination of the scene.
