Manhunt for 'dangerous' escaped prisoner who may have crossed Irish border

GARDAÍ in Co. Donegal are on the lookout for an escaped prisoner who may have crossed the border from Northern Ireland.

James Donegan, 30, failed to return to custody at Maghaberry Prison on Monday, October 22 after being granted compassionate bail by a court.

He was due to be sentenced in nearby Derry for a number of serious offences including attempted hijacking but remains at large.

The PSNI said Donegan may be travelling in Derry and Donegal.

It is also believed that he may be involved in further criminal activity.

He is described as being around 5'9" tall, of medium build with light brown hair.

Officers are urging Donegan to hand himself in immediately.

Police are also appealing to anyone who may see Donegan not to approach him as he could be dangerous, and instead to call 101 straight away.
