Nancy Pelosi to address the Dáil at centenary event

THE SPEAKER of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, will address the Dáil next week.

Ms Pelosi is set to address an audience of TDs, senators and former members of the Oireachtas at a special event at 12:30pm next Wednesday.

The address is commemorating the centenary of the first sitting of the Dáil.

Ms Pelosi is travelling as part of a US congressional delegation.

The group was invited to the centenary event by Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Feargháil.

Other invitees include congressman Richard Neal and Brendan Boyle.

The visit may also include a stop-off in Northern Ireland.

One of Donald Trump’s most notable critics, Ms Pelosi’s visit will precede the President’s planned trip to the Emerald Isle.

Ms Pelosi was one of those to oppose President Trump’s plans for a border wall between the US and Mexico.

She also clashed with the President during his State of the Union address, with her reaction to Trump’s speech going viral online.
