Police investigating death of Irishman Joseph Kelly at his home in London

METROPOLITAN Police are appealing for information and witnesses after Irishman Joseph Kelly collapsed and died following a verbal altercation in Wood Green, North London.

Officers are particularly keen to trace two teenagers who they believe had argued with the man before his collapse.

Police were called shortly after midnight on Wednesday, April 12, to reports of an altercation and an unconscious man in Moselle Avenue, N22.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and Mr Kelly, 62, was taken to a north London hospital where he later died.

Mr Kelly was born in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and had been a fitter and welder by trade. He was unmarried and had no children.

His work took him all over Europe, but in more recent years he had settled in North London where he had a close circle of friends in Noel Park.

A special post-mortem examination held on April 13 at Haringey Mortuary did not establish a definitive cause of death, but made reference to Mr Kelly's generally poor recent health.

Officers await the results of further tests.

Detectives from Haringey CID are investigating. No arrests have been made and enquires continue.

DCI Luke Marks, the officer leading the investigation, said: "The death is not being treated as a homicide, however a police investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.

"I am very keen to trace anyone who saw Mr Kelly in Moselle Avenue, and in particular I wish to speak with two teenagers who had argued with him shortly before he collapsed.

"I would urge those young men to get in touch and simply tell me what happened."

Anyone with information is asked to call Haringey CID on 020 3276 3071. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
