Popular chocolate brands recalled from Irish supermarkets due to risk of Salmonella poisoning

TWO OF the most popular chocolate brands have had their products recalled from Irish supermarkets because of a possible risk of salmonella poisoning.

There are currently no reports of illness, but Irish food chiefs are warning that batches of both Galaxy smooth milk bars and Maltesers fun size bags could cause salmonellosis.

Symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever.

The products to avoid are the 42 gram Galaxy smooth milk chocolate, with the batch code 720B1SLO00 and best before dates of 13.05.2018, and the Maltesers Fun Size bag with the batch code 720A1SLO00 and best before dates of 13.05.2018.

A spokesperson for the Food Safety Authority said the affected products were “placed on the market accidentally”.

“In June 2017, Mars Ireland recalled a range of its products due to the possible presence of salmonella.

“Two pallets of the above-implicated products were on hold with an Irish distributor awaiting destruction but were placed on the market accidentally.

“Mars Ireland is recalling the above specific batch of the 42g Galaxy Smooth Milk bar and Maltesers Fun Size bags.”

Food businesses have been ordered not to sell the affected batches.

Customers who may have already eaten the implicated products and are feeling unwell should seek medical advice.
