REBEKAH Brooks is to make a return to News Corp to head up Irish company Storyful, according to reports.
Ms Brooks, who was acquitted at last year’s phone hacking trial, will return to News Corp almost four years after parting ways with the Rupert Murdoch owned company.
Storyful and News Corp have yet to comment on the reports but it is understood that Ms Brooks will take up an executive role.
Storyful was set up in 2010 by former RTÉ journalist Mark Little. The news agency is described as the world’s newsroom of the social media age.
The business has grown quickly, and there are now Storyful bases in Dublin, New York and Hong Kong. News Corp acquired the company in 2013 for £15 million.
Ms Brooks began her career in the late 1980s as a secretary for News of the World before working her way up to editor, eventually becoming chief executive of News International.
She resigned in 2011 and was acquitted of charges relating to hacking at the News of the World and payments to public officials at The Sun.
It is understood that she will be primarily based in Britain, though will travel to the Dublin headquarters as part of her role.
