Woman in her 60s dies after being attacked with a sword in west Dublin

A WOMAN has died after being attacked with a sword in west Dublin. 

The victim, who has not been named, has been described by gardai as a woman in her 60s. 

The attacking occurred at a house on Willow Road in Blanchardstown this Sunday morning. 

A man has been arrested by gardai at the scene of the fatal assault. 

Garda have sealed off the crime scene while forensic examinations are conducted on the victim’s body. 

The man is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Blanchardstown Garda Station. 

Officers can hold him for questioning for up to 24 hours before a formal charge is required. 

A number of Gardaí, including members of the Armed Support Unit, were involved in making the arrest. 

It is believed the woman knew her attacker and investigations are ongoing.
