Tributes paid to Offaly U21 manager Dermot Hogan

TRIBUTES have been paid by the Offaly County Board to U21 hurling manager Dermot Hogan, who died last Thursday following a tragic accident.

Hogan, 45, was reportedly painting a shed at the family farm in Coolderry, Co Tipperary, when he fell through a roof he had been standing on and suffered serious head injuries.

His wife Marie, who was close by, raised the alarm, and paramedics worked frantically to save him, but he was later pronounced dead at Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

Mr Hogan worked as a farmer and in a meat factory in north Tipperary.

Offaly chairman Padraig Boland said: “Dermot’s positivity towards Offaly hurling was infectious. While Dermot’s loss to Coolderry and Offaly hurling will be huge, it pales into insignificance when compared to the loss that will be felt by his wife Marie and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this extremely sad time."

Mr Hogan had only been named as Offaly U-21 manager earlier this year, with the county exiting the Leinster championship at the semi-final stage to Wexford, who went on to seal victory.
