‘Proud’ Irish lawyer honoured with prestigious award at British event

AN Irish lawyer has been honoured at a prestigious legal awards event which takes place annually in Birmingham.

Proud Irish woman Mary Kaye received the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Birmingham Law Society’s annual Legal Awards this month.

Based in Birmingham, Ms Kaye is a partner at the Shakespeare Martineau law firm.

Regarding her win, she told The Irish Post: “I was extremely honoured as an Irish person in Birmingham to win the lifetime achievement award at the Birmingham Law Society Legal awards.”

She added: “This year was even more special as this is the celebration of the 200 years of the Society and also it took place on International Women’s day, so a great celebration all round.

“I’m proud to be part of the Irish community in Birmingham.”

Born in Co. Limerick, Ms Kaye moved to Manchester in 1976, where she worked for Bank of Ireland, and moved on to Birmingham in 1982 - where she trained as a legal executive before qualifying as a solicitor in 1997.

Before joining Shakespeare Martineau as a partner in 2006 she was a partner at city law firm Blakemores.

The Birmingham Law Society was founded in 1818.

Its Legal Awards have been honouring best of the region’s legal talent since the inaugural event in 2002.

Firms and individuals practicing in the West Midlands are invited to submit nominations in one of the 13 award categories.

This year’s winners were announced at a ceremony held on Thursday, March 8 at the International Convention Centre.
